Jure Cvitan has once proclaimed himself to be the Conqueror of Unuseless. The colour palette – full of trashy, kitsch and neon colours – walks hand in hand with his typical iconography, a »Schnellkurs« in pop culture. His visual language is inspired by street art and stencil graffiti. The amusement park on the image is from Chernobyl – they were supposed to open it on the very day the nuclear reactor exploded. The post-apocalyptic atmosphere on his images is often accompanied with his self-portrait.
Jure Cvitan, born 1981 in Celje, Slovenia where he lives and works. He graduated at College for Visual Arts in Ljubljana (SLO). He mostly creates in media of painting but he is common with installation, actions in public space and guerilla approaches in artistic activities. He is also involved with organization of international video art festival Electric Rats dream Video Dreams, festival of performance and interventions »Addmission free«, at grafitti festival Lay Up. He is also an active member of group KUD 567. His most important and succesfull solo exhibitions were: Conqueror of the useless, Expedition? Never., Fake my Story master, Mundus vadit retro, We want to be free as our fathers were.
